In March of this year Genome Alberta's President and CEO David Bailey was asked to make a presentation to the Beef Value Chain Roundtable (BVCRT) held in Ottawa. The BVCRT brings together multiple industry and government sectors to develop new ways to improve the competitiveness of the beef industry. Meetings such as the one Dr. Bailey attended focus on different aspects of the industry, but usually include a range of representatives from ranchers & producers through to the retail portion of the value chain. As antimicrobial resistance in people and animals is becoming a worldwide concern the meeting included speakers talking about alternatives, the European experience in dealing with AMR, and using genomics as a tool to deal with the challenges.
